The simplest family unit would consist of a father,a mother and a child.Obviously not everyone would have the same strength and capabilities.It would be ludicrous to expect an infant to search forr food or to fight off wild animals.Hence the concept of Division of Duties came into being.The adult male (father) would be responsible for hunting for food and for protecting the family from wild animals and enemies.The female (mother) would be responsible for looking after the baby and feeding him (including breast-feeding),while the young child had to continuosly learn from the adults and from the environment.This early stage in the social evolution of man clearly illustrates the efficacy of the family to work as team in order to maximize the chance of survival.
